Budapest Quick Pics

Palace

Looking across the Danube from our hotel balcony one can see the Palace, now in use as museums/galleries.

The Chain Bridge

View of the Chain Bridge across the Danube with Matthias Church in the background. View from our balcony.

Budapest McDonald's

Our culture invades. Nicest McDonald's I have ever been in. Had to pay to use the restrom though.

Eternal Flame

Memorial of the 1956 revolution. Take some time to read about Hungary's failed attempt to keep from falling under the boot of the Soviet Union. The Hungarians, including Peg's father, fought Soviet main battle tanks with molotov cocktails and rocks. They lost that fight but the feelings simmered and the Soviet Union always knew that they had never quite conquered this proud county.

Old Church

This church, in the Gothic style, is kinda scary.

Train Station

Seeing Elaine off at the train station. She came into Budapest from Pespukladany for the day to see us

Mackenzie

Mackenzie in front of the statue of Bishop Gellert. Bishop Gellert was an Italian who assisted King Istvan in converting Hungary to Christianity. He was murdered by pagans and the statue honors him as he holds the cross defiantly thrust toward the city.
