I recently purchased a Yaesu VX8-R amateur radio. I haven't operated much since moving from Atlanta so I suppose it is time to get back in touch with my electronics geek side.

The radio is truly tiny and is rugged and waterproof. Perhaps it is time to do some emergency and disaster service volunteering.

Beth continues to work hard at Towson University. She is struggling a little bit with graphing in Excel but hopes to get that figured out soon.

Update: Beth's Grandfather, Charles Stevenson, has identified the chart in question as the stock market for the last year.

Please indulge me in this self-absorbed post to mark the day I completed reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, a 3658 page, 6 volume historic work by Edward Gibbon chronicling the long, slow death of the Roman Empire.

I understand that this may not mean much to anyone besides me, but this is the end of a long 4 year journey during which a volume of Decline was rarely beyond arm's reach....a constant companion.

I now know more about the Roman Empire and the causes of its decline than I ought to.

Today is Beth's 18th birthday, she is now a full-fledged adult capable of making adult-sized decisions and being responsible for her actions.

Although she has been flying free for a while now, the reality is that she is now officially a big girl. Hopefully the lessons taught by her mother and I (and many others) have prepared her well for the rest of her journey.

This past weekend my beautiful niece Kristy, Chip's oldest daughter, got married. The wedding was in a beautiful Catholic church in Wilmington, DE where Kristy and her new husband Fran live. The reception was at the famous Hagley Museum Soda House in the Brandywine area of Delaware.


I didn't take my camera so I will post more (and better) pictures as Mom figures out how to send her images to me.
